Abstract
The city of Lomé, due to its population growth, sees a spatial extension of its perimeter, as a result of the tremendous development of non-agricultural activities. In fact, it is an extension which develops through a phenomenon of gradual absorption of the rural and peri-urban agglomerations among which can be mentioned Baguida and Sanguéra. Being the food-producing areas of the urban population of Lomé, these two rural and peri-urban agglomerations are, through the process of rural urbanization, the target of non agricultural utilizations that seriously jeopardize agricultural activities, which consequently leads to the clearing off of market gardeners and the decrease of cultivable areas. This provokes, as a result, the increase of production costs, food shortages, and a hike in prices of agricultural products, as well as it raises the question of the future of agriculture.
